I am very proud of Koyama now!!! Koyama was honored by his college as a "model student"!

Below is a translation by me of the news from Daily Sports.

Keiichiro Koyama (22ys old), a member of NEWS, attend the graduation ceremony of Meiji University, which was held at Nippon Budokan in Kitanomaru, Tokyo. In 2003 He entered in in School of Arts and letters, department of History and Geography, and he managed himself to do both his work and study well. So he was selected to a model student.

In Japan, a proverb "manage both study and sports" exists. And he managed bot study and art as an idol.
(sorry, I can't express this word well. It might be a kind of proverb. I just tell you a meaning)
He wore a black suit, and had a diploma and certification of model student, and he looked honorable. Although he was very busy for his work, he studied very hard. And the certification approves how he worked and studied hard. He praised himself, saying "I am great."

He was a freshman when NEWS was made. He mentioned about his 4 years as a college student such as "my fans encouraged me, and my friends helped me. I might not graduate if I was alone". And when he asked about his love affair, he said "I was welcome, but...." he murmured.

In NEWS, several members are still college students. Tomohisa Yamashita (21ys) is in Meiji Univ., School of Commerce. Shigeaki Kato (19ys) is in Aoyama Gakuin Univ., College of Law, Yuya Tegoshi (19ys) is in Waseda Univ. School of Human Sciences. They work and study as hard as Koyama, and their new single CD "Hoshi wo Mezashite" got the 1st rank at the newest ORICON research.
He is going to perform as a leading actor in a musical in June. As he majored in Asian history and geography, he told about his big dream as "I want to be active in the Asian countries".

That is so cute and so Koyama-san. I'm glad he's finally graduated - now he can relax a bit...or relax as much as a JE boy can.

Our Shige's gonna be a lawyer huh? That is so cool. Takes a lot of guts and willpower to do that, that's for sure. I can see it now - Shigeaki Kato, famous lawyer and Nobel prize for...something. *laughs* (I know I'm laughing, but I don't doubt our lads will make a difference in their fields. That's why they're JE boys!)

Hi Ryoko I hope you don't mind my addressing you by your given name. Your English just pwns all!! The day I can translate Japanese into English so easily I'll totally go out and celebrate. I cannot believe Koyama said that he's great but then nobody else seems to be surprised at all by this ... so ... "shrugs" Anyway I'm really proud of him and happy for him. And you live near Shige don't you? Oh how lucky you are! If I were you I'd totally be spending my life planning how to accidentally "bump" into Shige ... baby baby baby ... Shige is my favourite next to Koyama. Thank you for translating the article of Koyama's graduation for the rest of us. We truly appreciate it.

waah. and as a model student too!? I'm so happy for him! :P I'd never survive trying to balance college with work, especially with all the work that Koyama does in dramas, SC, NEWS, and the like.

Thank you so much for translating!
oh, and would you mind if I friended you? ♥

Thanks for this! I was wondering about Koyama's major too, since I heard 'department of literature' but also that his kanji's terrible. I'm rather curious just how terrible it is though!

The japanese education system is rly interesting! It seems very stressful, with the entrance exams and stuff. Do you mind me asking, what's cram school like? Is it like a tuition centre? Can you get into university just by working hard in high school and not attending cram school?

From: [identity profile] masuda-takahits.livejournal.com
I wonder why people suddenly got interest in Koyama's former field recently^^;
Cram school can be considered as tuition centre for those who have already graduated their high school, and for those who are still in the final year at school they only take classes after school or on weekends.
Here not all the people need to go to such school at all.
If people are quite good at study and can pass the entrance exam, they just study by themselves.
And for those who are quite poor at study, they would be still able to enter the lowest universities if they can win their easy exam.
If people are still not enough to pass the exam which is provided by the schools which they want to enter, some of them would go to cram school, and others would hire the private teacher or study by themselves with lots of textbooks.
(Personally when I was in junior high school I went to cram school for 1 year as I wanted to enter the advanced high school, and when I was at that high school, I took 5 days short course at cram school in summer holidays as my college provided unique exam and I wanted to learn about them from that short course)

lol the sudden interest is probably cuz someone asked the qn on news_jpop recently and the rest of us remembered our own doubts about it.
I like lit a lot, so I was pretty excited when I first heard that Koyama took lit as well, but I began to have serious doubts when I heard how bad he is with Kanji. Well, Asian studies is interesting too! I hope he and NEWS put that knowledge to good use by touring Asia soon. ^^
Thanks for taking the time to explain!

I've been following several threads about Koyama's major and I finally got here. So he majored in Asian History and Geography and not Literature! I've been mistaken all this time! *shocked* XDDDD Thank you very, very much for your translation (it's enlightened me ;)). ♥
